New classes in Transnational Law!

Dear Students,

We warmly invite you to participate in a specialized lecture on Transnational Law, scheduled for the summer semester of 2025/2026. The classes will be led by faculty members from the Chair of Transnational Law: Prof. Magdalena Słok-Wódkowska, Dr. Jagna Mucha, and Dr. Oktawian Kuc.

The format will involve a moderated discussion centered around a case study, with a brief introduction beforehand.

We aim to explore the following questions:

1. What constitutes transnational law?

2. Can a foreign investor sue a state?

3. Platform economy – who oversees digital giants? How does the EU uphold its standards?

4. Transnational disputes regarding product standards – when does a regulation turn into a trade barrier?

5. Digital trade within the WTO system and beyond: do we require global regulations?

6. Is there a community of courts operating transnationally?

7. Immunity above justice? When do international rulings conflict with constitutional law?

8. Can courts play a role in combating climate change? The implementation of transnational climate law.

9. Who holds the ultimate authority in Europe? The CJEU vs. constitutional courts.

10. The land reform situation in Zimbabwe – a clash between sovereignty and international rulings?

11. What about alternative methods? Exploring ADR, or extrajudicial dispute resolution in a transnational setting.

12. Emulating Erin Brockovich – how class actions serve as a means to address group claims.

13. Transnational consumer law in action. What actions can one take when Amazon fails to deliver your order, or Wizzair cancels your flight?

14. Public enforcement of transnational law – who will safeguard our rights if we do not take action ourselves?

15. Access to justice in a transnational context. How does theory align with practice?
